From Hot to Cool: How to Handle Hot Flashes in Summer

Living in Ojai, CA, where temperatures soar, managing the heat becomes a daily challenge. Adding menopause hot flashes to the mix can feel like putting hot on hot. I also use heat therapy for knee recovery, which intensifies the situation. Thankfully, I've found some effective ways to cool down both inside and out. Here are my top five ways to stay cool, and how our Cool Boost can help you manage hot flashes.

I wish I had a book called Hot Flashes For Dummies

Hot flashes are sudden feelings of warmth, often intense, typically spreading over the face, neck, and chest. They are caused by fluctuating estrogen levels, which affect the hypothalamus, the part of the brain that regulates body temperature. This disruption sends mixed signals to your body, causing blood vessels to expand and sweat glands to activate, creating that infamous rush of heat.

Five Ways to Cool Down This Summer

  1. Stay Hydrated:

    • Drink plenty of water throughout the day. Hydration helps regulate body temperature and reduces the intensity of hot flashes. Not soda, or iced coffee. Water. Add some lemon because that makes it delicious.

  2. Dress in Breathable Fabrics:

    • Opt for lightweight, breathable fabrics like cotton and linen. These materials help wick moisture away from your body, keeping you cool. I purchased a sun protection long sleeve recently and let me tell you polyester is not a friend of hot flashes.

  3. Use Cooling Products:

    • Our Cool Boost relieves hot flashes with a blend of red clover, rose hip, and orange. It also eases night sweats and improves sleep, acting as your all-natural menopause management assistant. We’ve had great feedback from our customers on this product!

  4. Practice Deep Breathing:

    • Deep, slow breathing can help reduce the severity of hot flashes. Try inhaling slowly through your nose for a count of four, holding for seven, and exhaling through your mouth for eight. This actually works. Try it next time you feel a hot flash coming on.

  5. Stay Cool Indoors:

    • Use fans or air conditioning to keep indoor spaces cool. Taking cool showers or baths can also help lower your body temperature quickly.

  6. BONUS TIP

    • Put a cold water towel around your neck when you're feeling super heated. It is an immediate cool down.
